True to its name, this ear-shaped fungus has a springy, rubbery consistency and a distinctive brownish hue, growing up to 10 cm in diameter. It is a popular ingredient in Chinese cuisine, especially in soups and stir-fries, where it is prized for its mild, slightly sweet flavor and uniquely crunchy texture.
About Our Auricularia Capsules:
Our dried Wood Ear mushrooms are processed using an industrial superfine grinding method, reducing them to a near-dust consistency.
This process breaks down chitin, releasing a broad spectrum of beneficial nutrients. Chitin is the primary building block of mushroom cell walls—the same durable material found in the exoskeletons of arthropods. Without disrupting the chitin molecules, these nutrients remain "locked" within the cells and pass through the digestive system unabsorbed.
The extract is prepared using spray drying, a technique that transforms liquid into dry powder by rapidly drying it with hot gas. This is arguably the most effective drying method for heat-sensitive substances like food and pharmaceuticals, or materials requiring an exceptionally uniform particle size.
Finally, the dry extract powder is vacuum-blended with dried Auricularia fruiting bodies. This further disrupts the cell walls, significantly enhancing the bioavailability of the intracellular compounds.

The History of Wood Ear Mushroom
The Wood Ear was first scientifically described in 1789 by Jean Baptiste François (Pierre) Bulliard, who named it Tremella auricula-judae. In 1888, Joseph Schröter officially designated the species as Auricularia auricula-judae. The name is derived from the Latin auricula, meaning "ear," and Judae, referring to Judas—the same Judas known for betraying Christ.
Intriguingly, this mushroom is deeply tied to the legend of Judas Iscariot, who is said to have hanged himself from an elder tree following his betrayal. According to folklore, these ear-shaped fungi represent the returning spirit of Judas.
Beyond its mythical origins, the Wood Ear has been a popular food source for centuries and remains so today. Auricularia auricula is prized not only as a culinary staple but also for its long-standing role in traditional medicine.
